Mexico Responds to US Tariffs with Plan B

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that the country will respond to the tariffs imposed by the United States with a Plan B. Members of her cabinet, lawmakers, and prominent figures supported this decision and agreed on the importance of defending national sovereignty.

The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, expressed his support for President Sheinbaum through social media, celebrating the call to attend the Zócalo of Mexico City this Sunday to learn about the measures that will be taken. Delgado emphasized: "As our president says: it is time to defend Mexico and its sovereignty!".

The head of the Government of CDMX, Clara Brugada, also backed Sheinbaum and criticized President Donald Trump's lack of respect for the previously signed trade agreement. Brugada stated: "There is no reason, rationale, or justification to support this decision that will affect both nations. Mexico will act with dignity and determination in the face of unilateral decisions that harm our people."

During her press conference this Tuesday, Claudia Sheinbaum called on the Mexican people to attend the Zócalo of the capital next Sunday, where Mexico's response to the tariffs imposed by Trump will be formally presented. She emphasized that this unilateral decision affects both national and foreign companies in Mexico, as well as citizens of both countries.

For his part, the coordinator of the Morena Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, supported Sheinbaum and labeled the U.S. tariffs as an "affront". Monreal underscored: "Sovereignty and mutual respect are the basis of our relationship with the U.S. The imposition of tariffs is an affront. Therefore, we have decided to respond with tariff and non-tariff measures that will be publicly announced next Sunday."
